Classes

We have non-competitive gymnastics classes for boys and girls, ages 18 month to Adult!

18 months to 3 yrs -  Parent-Tot:  This class is designed to introduce your child to the fun filled world of gymnastics!  They will go through obstacle courses on every event - that the “big” kids get to do - in a fun, safe and positive environment!  They will learn the age appropriate basics of gymnastics—monkey jump s (cartwheels), donkey kicks (handstands), etc.  This is fun for all participants including mom or dad, but please wear your sweats as you will get a work out too!

3/4 yrs and 5/6 yrs - Preschool:  The preschool classes introduce your preschooler the basics of gymnastics in an age appropriate way.  We make it so fun to learn that they have no idea they are exercising!  As they learn, the smaller gymnastics skills starts turning into “real” gymnastics before your eyes!  Every class is designed for all levels of learning - quick or slow, strong or a bit challenged, every child will feel they can succeed!

Recreational Boys and Girls (ages 5 to 7, 8 and up):  We follow USAG’s guidelines (USA Gymnastics) which has a level system.  All children start in level one and as they learn the progressive skills in that level and on every event, they move up.  For girls, they will learn skills on the Bars, Beam, Floor Exercise, Vault, Trampoline and a little bit of dance.  For the boys, they will learn on the Rings, Parallel Bars, High Bar, Vault, Floor, Pommel Horse and Trampoline.  As they progress, they will move up into higher levels and if they aspire to, they can test to be on team.

***Competitive Teams - Boys and Girls:   Rising Stars Gymnastics has had a very successful competitive girls program since 1996.  In 2010, we had our first ever boys team and they were awesome!  We strive on making your gymnast the best that he/she can be by giving them the best up to date technical advise from our USAG Professional Membership Coaches.  Competition starts at Level 4 and you must be a minimum of 6 years old to legally compete in a sanctioned USAG meet.  All of our competitive coaches are Professional Members of USAG USAG, Safety Certified, and have passed a National Back Ground Check.  Please call if you are interested in more information on teams.  FYI, they must pass through all levels 1 through 3 and test for Level 4 team.  360-653-7827

GYMNASTICS

This may seem obvious to those who are familiar with the sport but wrestling is great for a child’s physical development. The following excerpt from The Parents Guide to Youth Wrestling, written by Bill Campbell explores some of the specific benefits.

Sports offer opportunities for children to improve their strength, flexibility and coordination, while having fun. Most sports activities rely more on some muscle groups and less on others. For example, most sports focus primarily on pushing motions (leg/arm extension) such as throwing, hitting, kicking, jumping and running.

Experts believe that unilateral (equal emphasis on all muscle groups) physical development is especially important in young athletes. Isolated development at an early age, over a long period, increases the risk of injury and limits long-term foundational growth. Swimming, gymnastics and wrestling are among the few sports that engage both pulling and pushing muscle groups.

Of all the sports choices a parent and child can make, wrestling is perhaps the best sport for overall physical development because it involves all muscle groups, and requires the greatest balance of athletic skill. Not only does wrestling improve balance, speed, agility and intensity, but it strengthens virtually all muscle groups from hips, legs, torso and upper body, but also neck and grip strength.

Wrestling is the sport that can dramatically improve one’s ability to perform in other sports. A ten-year old, for example, who was considered by coaches to be a slow base runner, later won a large and very competitive multi-county base running contest after only one season of wrestling. Many soccer and football coaches are known to recruit wrestlers because of their superior athletic capabilities, and parents often notice improvements in athletic ability after a season of wrestling.
